February 1, 2024– Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) embraces the Macau SAR Government’s “Macau Thrives on Education” and “Building Macau through Talent Training” policies, and actively supports the personal growth and holistic development of local youths through diverse approaches. Since 2011, GEG has been jointly organizing the GEG Youth Achievement Program (“YAP”) with the Macau Management Association (“MMA”). For 12 consecutive years, YAP has provided a wide range of activities and training opportunities to nearly 3,500 participants aged between 18 and 29. To acknowledge the outstanding performance and learning achievements of last year’s participants and inaugurate the new edition of YAP, a ceremony for the 12th YAP Award Presentation and the 13th YAP Launch took place today at the Galaxy International Convention Center, during which GEG renewed its three-year cooperation agreement with MMA to continue jointly promoting the cultivation and development of local young talents.
Mr. Yang Yi, Deputy Director of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR; Ms. Cheong Man Fai, Head of Department of Youth of Education and Youth Affairs Bureau of the Macau SAR Government; Mr. Lei Seak Chio, Head of Occupational Safety and Health Department of the Labour Affairs Bureau of the Macau SAR Government; Mr. Chui Sai Cheong, President of MMA; Mr. Tommy Lau, Council Chairman of MMA; Mr. Francis Lui, Vice Chairman of GEG; Mr. Philip Cheng, Director of GEG; and a number of GEG and MMA management members attended the ceremony. Witnessed by the officiating guests, Mr. Philip Cheng and Mr. Tommy Lau signed a cooperation agreement on behalf of GEG and MMA respectively, signifying the joint facilitation by both parties to continue developing the YAP for the next three years so that more local young talents can be supported on their comprehensive competitiveness enhancement, broaden their horizons and achieve greater successes.
In his speech, Mr. Philip Cheng, Director of GEG, said, “With the unwavering support of the community, YAP has established itself as a significant platform for promoting the holistic development of Macau’s youth. Through renewing our cooperation agreement with MMA, GEG hopes to continue working with MMA on taking the YAP to a new chapter and creating a better future for Macau’s youth development.” Mr. Tommy Lau, Council Chairman of MMA, said, “MMA is committed to nurturing talents and supporting the diverse development of Macau. Aligned with GEG’s belief and goal in prioritizing the healthy physical and mental development of the city’s young generation, we believe that our joint organization of YAP provides a high-quality platform for young people to build a solid foundation and develop into future community leaders.”
The 12th YAP, which focused on technological innovation, featured a variety of fascinating events, including “Meta With U: Understanding the Metaverse” workshop and the “Immersive Greater Bay Area Study Tour”, to equip them with knowledge of future technology trends. In addition, participants were also provided with opportunities to visit China’s high-tech industrial development zones, during which they learnt of the country’s efforts to establish a science and technology innovation hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, and the application of high-technology in smart cities. These visits and exchanges fostered the participants’ interest and knowledge in technological innovation.
In addition, GEG also invited YAP participants to a number of Macau’s major events, including the “WTT Champions Macao 2023 presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group”, the “Galaxy Entertainment Group 2023 11th Yao Foundation Charity Game”, the “2023 Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon” and the “TMEA Tencent Music Entertainment Festival”, which provided them with valuable opportunities to learn about Macau’s “1+4” adequate diversification development strategy. Highlighting on the sustainable development of Macau’s high-tech industry, this year’s Final Competition invited participants to develop an event plan for Macau that incorporates elements of science and innovation, accentuates the city’s characteristics, and effectively promotes the economy and enhances the Macau’s image. Team “MoBot” emerged as champions with their creative solution “Mobot 5G Speed Feast,” which combines the Macau Grand Prix, smart food stalls and finished product experience. As part of their prize, the team joined a GEG-sponsored high-tech study tour to Chengdu, Sichuan Province, where they gained a lot of knowledge and experience.
The 13th YAP, which focuses on community care, was also introduced during the ceremony. To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macau’s return to the motherland, a special theme of “Telling Good Stories of Macau” has been selected for this YAP edition. Participants are encouraged to explore different parts of the Macau community, including the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards, jointly-revitalized by GEG and the Macau SAR Government, to obtain a comprehensive understanding of Macau’s unique and profound historical and cultural heritage, and its development as the “Base for Exchange and Cooperation where Chinese Culture is the Mainstream and Diverse Cultures Coexist.” Through inviting the participants to join a series of activities that incorporates national education elements, participants will achieve a more solid understanding of their cultural identity, develop a stronger sense of belonging and affection for the country.
Moving forward, GEG will continue to uphold its corporate philosophy of “what is taken from the community is to be used for the good of the community” by actively promoting the cultivation of local youth and talents, and assisting in the nurturing of society’s future leaders.
