GEG Hosts “GEG Presents – Dialogue with Olympic Women’s Volleyball Champion Wei Qiuyue on Sports Dreams with Macau Athletes” to Deepen Local Sports Exchanges

May 21, 2024 Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) has been contributing to the development of the local sports industry and Macau’s establishment as a “City of Sports” by proactively supporting Macau’s hosting of various international sports events through multi-pronged approaches. The “Women’s Volleyball Nations League 2024 Macao Presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group”, sanctioned by the International Volleyball Federation and jointly organized by the Sports Bureau of the Macau SAR Government, GEG and the Volleyball Association of Macao, China, will be held at the Galaxy Arena, Macau’s newest and largest indoor arena, from May 28 to June 2. To extend the volleyball enthusiasm to the community ahead of the tournament, GEG hosted the “GEG Presents – Dialogue with Olympic Women’s Volleyball Champion Wei Qiuyue on Sports Dreams with Macau Athletes” yesterday, inviting Ms. Wei Qiuyue, an Olympic women’s volleyball champion and former captain of China Women’s National Volleyball Team, to participate and share her competition experiences and athletic career with Macau’s sports representatives, volleyball elites, athletes who participated in the “Galaxy Entertainment Group Presents – We are Macau Athletes” program, and members of the GEG Volleyball Team. Through this initiative, GEG hoped to deepen sports exchanges in the community, encourage local athletes to pursue self-improvement, and enhance Macau’s sports competitiveness.

At the event, Ms. Wei Qiuyue provided the participants with insights on her development and career as a professional volleyball player, her experiences in garnering the championship and the sportsmanship of the China Women’s National Volleyball Team, with aims to encourage Macau athletes to continuously pursue their dreams, realize potentials and achieve personal breakthroughs. Through engaging in in-depth communications, she gained a better understanding of the development of Macau’s sports industry, as well as GEG’s efforts in supporting the Macau SAR Government in propelling the cross-sectoral integration of “tourism + sports.” Subsequently, GEG also arranged Ms. Wei to visit the Galaxy Arena equipped with world-class hardware and amenities, and Galaxy Macau™ to see its tourism and leisure facilities, as well as experiencing Macau’s multi-faceted charm of sports tourism.

Ms. Wei Qiuyue expressed gratitude for GEG’s invitation and said, “I am thrilled to revisit Macau and share my volleyball journey with Macau’s sports representatives and athletes. I can feel their passion towards sports and hope that my sharing can further inspire and motivate them. Furthermore, I am deeply impressed by the innovative venue design and advanced equipment of the Galaxy Arena, which can ensure a favorable competition ambience and highlighted experiences for the players.” Meanwhile, Ms. Wei also cheered for the China Women’s National Volleyball Team, wishing them the pursuit of excellence in the Macau tournament.

Mr. Leong Veng Tong, Coach of Women’s Youth Team of Macau; Mr. Cheong Hou Wang, member of the Macao Beach Volleyball Team who participated at the Hangzhou Asian Games; Ms. Tang Chi Ian, Captain of the Macao Schools Women’s Volleyball Team; athletes who participated in the “Galaxy Entertainment Group Presents – We are Macau Athletes” program, including Mr. Cheong Chi Cheng, a China-Macau table tennis athlete; Mr. Lee Tak Man, a China-Macau men’s bowling athlete and Mr. Kuok Kin Hang, a China-Macau karate athlete; Mr. Jason Hui and Ms. Phoebe Wong, members of GEG’s Volleyball Team; as well as Mr. Lei Sao Keong, Editor in Chief of Happy Macao, attended the activity with Mr. Yu Chung Hin, a Macau film and television practitioner being the event moderator.

After a four-year hiatus, the “Women’s Volleyball Nations League” returned to Macau. As one of the organizers, GEG proactively leverages the synergy of sports events by integrating volleyball and various leisure elements, to jointly organize a series of extended activities prior to the tournament with aims of sharing the volleyball fervor with different community groups and connecting the society through large-scale sports events. Moving forward, GEG will continue to organize and present more international sports events, support the integrated development of the local sports and tourism industries, and further enrich Macau’s positioning as a “World Center of Tourism and Leisure.”
