November 8, 2024 – Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) has been proactively supporting the Macau SAR Government’s “Macau Thrives on Education” and “Building Macau through Talent Training” policies by fostering the holistic development of local youths through diverse initiatives over the years. Since 2011, GEG has been jointly organizing the GEG Youth Achievement Program (“YAP”) with the Macau Management Association (“MMA”). Underpinned by the three core themes of “Self-Awareness”, “Community Care”, and “Career Development”, YAP has provided a wide range of rich and diverse activities and training opportunities to nearly 3,500 participants aged between 18 and 29. Today, GEG held the 13th YAP Award Presentation and the 14th YAP Launching Ceremony at the Galaxy International Convention Center to acknowledge the outstanding performance and learning achievements of last year’s participants and inaugurate the new edition of YAP.
Mr. Lei Seak Chio, Head of the Occupational Safety and Health Department of the Labour Affairs Bureau of the Macau SAR Government; Ms. O Man Ian, Director of Centre of Experimentation for the Youth of the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macau SAR Government; Mr. Zhao Su, Assistant to the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR; Mr. Tommy Lau, Council Chairman of MMA; Mr. Alex Mok, Council Vice Chairman of MMA; Mr. Philip Cheng, Director of GEG; Mr. Kevin Kelley, Chief Operating Officer – Macau of GEG; Mr. Buddy Lam, Director of Corporate Affairs of GEG; Mr. Andy Lee, Deputy Director of Operations of StarWorld Hotel, and other GEG and MMA management members attended the ceremony.
In his speech, Mr. Philip Cheng, Director of GEG, said, “As always, GEG believes that ‘education engenders a strong country’. Over the years, GEG has joined hands with MMA to promote YAP, helping local talents fully unleash their potential and give full play to their strengths. In addition to cooperating with MMA to develop the curriculum each year, GEG makes good use of our resources to actively encourage YAP students to participate in large-scale events and activities organized and supported by GEG, broadening their horizons and experiences of the unique charms of Macau.” Mr. Alex Mok, Council Vice Chairman of MMA, said in his speech, “MMA has been proactively promoting the holistic development of local youths and nurturing outstanding talents across various fields. Sharing the same belief as GEG, we focus on the physical and mental wellbeing of Macau’s young generation, and aim to provide an exceptional platform through the co-organization of YAP, helping young people explore their potential and contribute to society.”
During the ceremony, GEG and MMA representatives presented various awards to outstanding participants. In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macau’s return to the motherland, the 13th YAP specially introduced a short video competition called “Heart in Macau, Roots in China”, which encouraged participants to showcase Macau’s unique landscape of historic and cultural significance through visual narratives, telling good stories about Macau. In addition, this year’s Final Competition required participants to apply their learning by designing an innovative, Macau-themed tourism route that integrates elements such as culture, sports, leisure and entertainment to promote the city’s image. The competition was won by the team “Legend of Macau”, whose proposal combined Macau’s unique historical and cultural charm, linked the surrounding industries, and utilized smart technology to provide in-depth personalized services. As a reward, the winning team will join a study tour to Qingdao sponsored by GEG.
The 14th YAP, which focuses on “Career Development”, was also introduced during the event. The new edition will launch a series of activities such as workshops and seminars under the theme of “Creating Value Through Technology”, along with visits to technology innovation cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, helping participants understand the trends and applications of the country’s scientific and technological development through diverse approaches. Moving forward, GEG will continue to uphold its philosophy of “what is taken from the community is to be used for the good of the community”, creating a diversified learning platform for local youths and assisting in the nurturing of society’s future leaders.
