GEG Sets Up Memorial Area to Mourn Dr. Lui Che Woo
November 25, 2024 – Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) will set up a memorial area in the Galaxy International Convention Center from this Wednesday for team members and various sectors of the community to pay tribute to Dr. Lui Che Woo, GEG’s Founder and Chairman.
Located at Hall B, Ground Floor of the Galaxy International Convention Center, the memorial area will be open from November 27 to December 3. On the first day, it will be open from 3:00pm to 6:00pm; and for the remaining days, the opening hours will be from 11:00am to 6:00pm. At the memorial area, members of the public can leave their messages of condolences in the memorial guest book.
A revered entrepreneur and philanthropist, Dr. Lui Che Woo GBM JP, Founder and Chairman of GEG, Honorary Doctor of Laws, Honorary Doctor of Social Sciences, and Honorary Doctor of Business Administration, as well as the founder of the “LUI Che Woo Prize – Prize for World Civilization”, peacefully passed away on November 7, 2024, at the age of 95, surrounded by his family.
Dr. Lui, born in Jiangmen, Guangdong, and raised in Hong Kong, was a stalwart patriot of his country, Hong Kong and Macau. He founded K. Wah Group in 1955, and under his stewardship, stood for integrity and innovation, contributing significantly to national development and inspiring the Chinese community to collectively pursue a more prosperous China.
Dr. Lui’s businesses now include properties, entertainment and leisure, hospitality and construction materials across Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Southeast Asia and major cities in the world. In 2002, he established Galaxy Entertainment Group in Macau. Under Dr. Lui’s stewardship, GEG, known as a patriotic Chinese enterprise that is deeply rooted in Macau, has been supporting the moderate diversification of Macau’s economy and leading the stable, innovative and sustainable development of the integrated tourism and leisure industry. In 2005, GEG became the first integrated tourism and leisure company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and was included in the Hang Sang Index in 2013, gaining recognition in the market for its integrated business philosophy and management excellence. After 20 years of effort, GEG has successfully built an award-winning international brand and become a leading integrated tourism and leisure company.
Dr. Lui firmly believed in giving back to society, emphasizing education, healthcare, and public welfare. He donated to build over a hundred schools and established scholarships, while in recent years focusing on supporting high-end research, practicing the philosophy of “Strengthening the Country through Education, Benefiting the People through Education.” In 2015, he founded the Lui Che Woo Prize – Prize for World Civilisation. In 2016, Dr. Lui topped the Hurun China Philanthropy List for Hong Kong, Macau, and overseas Chinese, recognized as a leading philanthropist. He was also actively involved in and supporting the education, medical care and technology innovation sectors, among others, through donations and charitable projects across Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.
Dr. Lui Che Woo lived his life with integrity and a pioneering spirit, deeply embedding these values into GEG's corporate culture and serving as a role model for future generations. His profound patriotism and selfless dedication earned him the respect of all sectors of society, and his admirable qualities were cherished by employees, friends, and partners.
Dr. Lui's spirit and legacy will forever remain in our hearts. We extend our deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time.
