September 22, 2025 – Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) has been proactively supporting the Macau SAR Government’s policy direction by consistently promoting the development of the cultural and creative industries through a wide range of initiatives. In line with its ongoing efforts to support Macau’s development into a “City of Performing Arts,” GEG partnered with the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the SAR Government to co-organize the “2nd Galaxy Entertainment Group Macao International Shorts Film Festival” (“GEG Shorts Film Festival”), which was successfully held from September 14 to 21. The GEG Shorts Film Festival featured a rich program of events, including an opening ceremony, curated screenings, professional forums, thematic workshops, and “In Conversation with Director” sessions. More than 60 local and international short and feature films from 31 countries and regions were presented. This also marks the second consecutive year that GEG has served as a co-organizer, providing venue support across its properties, including Galaxy Cinemas at Galaxy Macau™, Galaxy International Convention Center (“GICC”), and Andaz Macau.
The opening ceremony and screening took place at Galaxy Cinemas on September 16, with attendees including Ms. Leong Wai Man, President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau; Mr. Wang Huijie, Chief of the Division of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR; Mr. Kevin Kelley, Chief Operating Officer – Macau of GEG. Featured screenings included this year’s Oscars-winning short film, “I’m Not A Robot”, the Portuguese sci-fi short film “Atom & Void” and the Dutch short film “Astro”. The closing and awards ceremony were held at the Galaxy Auditorium in the GICC on September 20, where the French short film “No Skate!” was honored with the Best Short Film Award and “Waves Under the Sea” received the Macao Unit Award.
The GEG Shorts Festival included five sections: “Macao Shorts”, “New Voices from Horizon”, “Director in Focus”, “East Asian Panorama” and “Special Screenings”, with a diverse range of short films screened at Galaxy Cinemas and Cinematheque・Passion under the Cultural Affairs Bureau. The festival attracted enthusiastic participation from local and international filmmakers. In addition, for the first time, the GEG Shorts Film Festival established a partnership with the “Giornate degli Autori” (Venice Days, a key parallel section of the Venice International Film Festival, to host a series of “Macao Day” themed events in Venice, Italy. This initiative aimed to enhance international exposure to Macau’s film creations and support emerging filmmakers in reaching global audiences.
To deepen industry exchange, five professional forums were held at GICC, covering topics such as filmmaking, career development for filmmakers, emerging market trends, the development of micro-series, and curatorial insights into film selection. Renowned actress and filmmaker Ms. Fala Chen also participated in the extended activity “In Conversation with Fala Chen” at Galaxy Cinemas, where she shared her creative journey from actress to director, along with her perspectives on the film industry. GEG extended invitations to students from the Department of Communication at the University of Macau, the Macao University of Tourism, and members of the Federation of Associations of Cultural Sectors of Macau to join the extended activity. The engagements provided valuable opportunities for local youth and industry professionals to connect with international experts, deepen their understanding of the film industry, and expand their career horizons. Looking ahead, GEG will continue to leverage its resources to promote cultural and artistic exchange through diverse initiatives, reinforcing Macau’s positioning as a “World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.”
