July 9, 2015 – As a responsible corporate citizen, Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) has been shouldering its responsibility for environmental protection. As of June 2015, the properties under GEG had collected over 5,000kg of soaps for recycling and donated to the third world countries. At the same time, GEG implemented various measures for energy saving and environmental protection, including replacing 50,000 florescent tubes and lamp bulbs into LED lights saving more than 7 million kWh of energy.  GEG had also obtained an advance Hobart Pulper machine to aggressively reduce the volume and size of food waste by 80%, and thus relieves pressure on storage and weight. With different environmental projects processing on hand, GEG is committed to conserve the environment and support the sustainable development in the society. 

Following the expansion of the GEG business, recycling resources is one of the significant environmental projects we initiate. GEG properties including Galaxy Macau™, StarWorld Hotel and Hotel Okura Macau joined hands with America charitable organization “Clean the World” to collect soaps left behind in hotel rooms.  After the process of shredding and sanitization, the recycled soaps are distributed to over 70 third world countries to enhance the hygiene of people living in impoverished areas and avoid fatal diseases. From October 2014 to June 2015, GEG contributed more than 5,000kg of soaps for recycling, among them were also distributed to the local charitable associations for daily cleaning amenities and victims suffered from the devastated 7.9 magnitude earthquake in Nepal on April this year, to improve their hygiene conditions and prevent the spread of diseases.

GEG also put lots of efforts in energy saving, for instance, 50,000 florescent tubes and lamp bulbs have been changed to LED lights since last year; conserving more than 7 million kWh within a year, which is equivalent to supporting electricity for 2,200 families. Considering the light bulb container is made of glass, therefore, GEG volunteered to collect light bulbs for reproduction by local recycling factories into eco-bricks.  Furthermore, Galaxy Macau participate the Glass Recycling Programme organized by Macau IACM and up until now, the property has collected 30 tons of glass bottles for recycling. 

Apart from the launch of energy saving projects initiatives, GEG also promotes waste reduction to team members. Recently, GEG purchased a new Hobart Pulper machine of use at staff restaurant. The machine works by dehydrating food wastes and cutting down its original size and weight by 80%, thus reducing odour and relieving the pressure of landfills. While the Hobart Pulper is generating, another segment from the food waste will be dispensed to the waste decomposing machine and reproduced as organic composite for gardening at the integrated resort.  GEG continues to engage in green, reduce carbon emission and recycle resources to ensure a healthy surrounding for guests and team members and to pursue the consistent efforts of corporate and environmental sustainability.
