GEG Employees Take Home Most Awards in MORS Gold Pin Competition
December 18, 2017 – Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) encourages team members to give full play to their talents and broaden their horizons by participating in various local and international competitions. Recently, GEG employees won six awards in five sessions of the Macao Occupational Skills Recognition System (MORS) Gold Pin Competition, making GEG’s team the biggest winner for the second consecutive year. Team members from Hotel Okura Macau won both awards in the Room Attendant session, and team members from Galaxy Macau™ won the Bartender session for the third consecutive year, bringing industry recognition and appreciation for GEG staff.
The MORS Gold Pin Competition is organized by the Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT). This year, the competition attracted 333 participants from 38 companies. GEG sent team members to participate in nine sessions. After two preliminary rounds, 16 GEG team members advanced to the finals, in which they garnered a total of six awards in five sessions: Assistant Cook (Western Kitchen), Bartender, Cook in Chinese Cuisine (Intermediate), Room Attendant, and Security Officer for the Tourism and Gaming Industry. The award-winning employees are Xie Jianjun from Galaxy Macau; Yang Mingbo from StarWorld Hotel; Ong Sze Ling, Huang Shiyu and Yang Wei from Hotel Okura Macau; and Ngo Quoc Quyen from JW Marriott Hotel Macau. Each winner received a MORS Gold Pin, a cash award of MOP8,000, a certificate and a MOP2,000 scholarship for IFT training courses.
“The final contest required the contestants to create a cocktail and set the table with the theme of ‘Mona Lisa’, the masterpiece of Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci. So I selected three kinds of renowned Italian wines as the base of my cocktail, mixing them with dried roses and freshly squeezed lemon juice to bring out the complex flavor profile and rich texture, just like the mysterious smile of ‘Mona Lisa’. The biggest challenge was that I had to explain my ideas to the judges while mixing the cocktail. I want to thank my managers and colleagues for their support and encouragement, as well as the valuable advice from my colleagues on the training team. All of them gave me the confidence to participate in the competition,” said Xie Jianjun, the winning bartender from Galaxy Macau’s China Rouge.
GEG cares about the professional development of its team members and encourages them to participate in various competitions, including the WorldSkills Competition and the GHKM Safety Knowledge Competition. GEG will continue to provide training and support to team members to encourage them to improve their professional proficiency, realize comprehensive development and contribute to the promotion of the economic diversification and sustainable development of Macau.
