While Macau has been working closely with Zhuhai City and Hengqin New Area on creating synergies in different fields, GEG has been communicating closely with its authorities on COVID-19 prevention. Earlier, GEG donated a total of 500,000 masks to Zhuhai City and Hengqin New Area, which were received by Mr. Yan Wu, Vice Mayor of Zhuhai Municipal People's Government; Mr. Xiao Shiming, Executive Vice President of Red Cross Society of Zhuhai; Mr. Li Weihui, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee of Hengqin New Area of Zhuhai; Mr. Huang Yujie, Director of Macau Affairs Bureau of the Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area, Zhuhai; and Ms. Zhu Ziqin, Director of Social Affairs Bureau of the Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area, Zhuhai on behalf of the city at the Zhuhai Hengqin New Area Administrative Committee.
To support the prevention and other efforts against the COVID-19, earlier, GEG announced a MOP20 million donation to Hubei Province and a MOP5 million donation to the Macau community, and as part of its local efforts, GEG rolled out a subsidy scheme that targets young children by providing a one-off subsidy of MOP30,000 to over 30 local schools and a one-off subsidy of MOP2,000 to children registered at Macau’s 20 non-government subsidized nurseries. The scheme has been well-received by the related schools and parents. Prior to these efforts, GEG had also donated disinfection and hygiene products to the Women's General Association of Macau, the General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macau and the Fuhong Society of Macau while prevention items such as surgical masks were also delivered to 40 elderly users of Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance Service before the Chinese New Year. GEG will continue to stay in close contact with our different community stakeholders and work together with the community in the prevention efforts against the COVID-19.
