Galaxy Macau Signs Macau Occupational Safety and Health Charter

June 9, 2014 - Galaxy Macau, flagship property of Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) reinforces its effort to promote workplace safety by signing the Macau Occupational Safety and Health Charter of Labour Affairs Bureau last Friday.
With Mr. Wong Chi Hong, Director of Labour Affairs Bureau, being the witness, the charter was signed by Mr. Chee Pong Chan, Senior Vice President of Facilities Management, and Ms. Michelle Lam, Assistant Manager of Human Resources & Administration, on behalf of the management team and the team members respectively.
Delighted to witness this important moment of Galaxy Macau, Mr. Wong Chi Hong, Director of Labour Affairs Bureau, said, “The hospitality industry is one of the most important sector in Macau. Its active involvement in promoting occupational safety will bring positive influence not only to the entire tourism industry but also to other commercial sectors.”
Mr. Chee Pong Chan, Senior Vice President of Facilities Management, also said during the signing ceremony, “Since its opening in 2011, Galaxy Macau has given its full dedication to create a safe workplace and has established a comprehensive safety management system in order to minimize occupational accidents. The signing ceremony today marks an important milestone in Galaxy Macau’s on-going effort to create a safe and comfortable environment for both its guests and team members.”
The purpose of the Macau Occupational Safety and Health Charter is to encourage bilateral cooperation between the management and employees to maintain a safe and healthy workplace through a comprehensive safety management system. The signing ceremony is an acknowledgment to many of the achievements made by Galaxy Macau in promoting occupational safety, including formulating a systematic framework to identify safety responsibility, monitoring health and safety performance indicators, providing sufficient protective clothing and equipment, as well as sufficient protective clothing and equipment for its team members.
Galaxy Macau recently received 17 awards from the first Restaurant Industry Occupational Safety and Health Award organized by Labours Affairs Bureau and is currently in the process of aligning it safety management system in accordance with the international standard of OHS 18001. Moreover, the resort hotel has been hosting training courses on a monthly basis since June 2011 to promote safety for high risk work such as working at heights, managing electricity and machines. The courses have been joined by nearly 4,700 team members so far.
