GEG Launches “GEG Sea Cruises: Fishing Heritage Leisure Tour”; Incorporates Cultural Elements of Fishing Village to Present a Unique Maritime and Cultural Tourism Experience

July 16, 2024 Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) proactively promotes maritime tourism and the revitalization of the local community through multi-pronged approaches in hopes of helping to deepen Macau’s connotation as a “World Center of Tourism and Leisure”. Given the positive response from the local community in the previous “GEG Sea Cruises”, GEG has further incorporated Macau’s distinct fishing village cultural elements and launched the “GEG Sea Cruises: Fishing Heritage Leisure Tour” in collaboration with the Fishermen’s Mutual Help Association of Macau, with the aims of enhancing and enriching the maritime and cultural tourism experiences of tourists, whilst supporting Macau’s traditional fisheries and its fishermen in upgrading and transformation, and driving forward the cross-sectoral integration of “tourism +” through practical actions.

Recently, “GEG Sea Cruises: Fishing Heritage Leisure Tour” made its inaugural voyage. Ms. Tong Iok Peng, Deputy Director of the Marine and Water Bureau (“DSAMA”) of the Macau SAR Government; Mr. Wu Chon Wai, Chief of the Ship Inspection Division of DSAMA; and Mr. Winky Tse, Vice President of Special Projects of GEG, attended to support and participate in the experience. During the voyage launched from the A-Ma Pier, Mr. Chan Meng Kam, Director of the Fishermen’s Mutual Help Association of Macau, explained to the participants Macau’s unique marine resources, culture and related historical events and anecdotes. He also took the participants on the ship deck to enjoy Macau’s urban and coastal scenery, passing by the city’s iconic architectures including the Governador Nobre de Carvalho Bridge, Sai Van Bridge, Kun Iam Ecumenical Center, GEG’s flagship property Galaxy Macau™, and the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards – a revitalization project jointly launched by the Macau SAR Government and GEG, enabling them to experience Macau’s unique blend of ancient and contemporary, and Eastern and Western influences from a maritime perspective.

Upon arriving at the Coloane Pier, GEG treated the participants to a performance of “Saltwater Songs”, a dialectal folksong listed as one of Macau’s intangible heritages, sung by Mr. Ho Kim Pui at a fishermen’s stilt house along the coast. The participants also had the pleasure of learning traditional fishing net weaving skills from local fishermen during a workshop, through which they reminisced the daily life of local fishermen in the past and absorbed Macau’s unique and diverse cultural aroma in a warm and lively manner. From now until September, more tourist groups from different regions, and various local associations and organizations in Macau will participate in the cruise, in hopes of promoting Macau’s maritime tourism resources, while also passing on the traditional local fishing culture.

GEG proactively contributes to the enrichment and enhancement of Macau’s land-sea tourism experiences. Launched in October last year, the “GEG Sea Cruises” showcase many of Macau’s famous landmarks and coastal scenery, including its connection to the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards, a historical site preserving the memories of the shipbuilding industry. In addition, GEG had also collaborated with various community groups and organized a number of well-received and special maritime charity activities for a total of nearly 150 members from more than 10 local organizations and groups, enabling the community understand Macau’s land-sea history, culture and related tourism resources. Moving forward, GEG will continue to make good use of its resources to develop more tourism and leisure products that incorporates different elements and injects new impetus into the sustainable development of Macau’s tourism industry and supports the “1+4” adequate diversification development strategy.
