Galaxy Hotel Awarded EarthCheck Benchmarked Silver Certification Demonstrates GEG’s Efforts towards Carbon Peak and Neutrality

A group of executives and the Energy and Environmental Management Committee were present to show support.
March 23, 2022 – Embracing environmental protection as an integrated part of sustainable development, Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) proactively supports the country and Macau in fulfilling their goals and commitments on carbon peak and carbon neutrality through implementing a wide array of source reduction and energy conservation initiatives. Recently, Galaxy Hotel™ received Silver Certification from EarthCheck – the world’s leading benchmarking certification and advisory group for the travel and tourism industry, for demonstrating outstanding performance in environmental protection and sustainability. Following the Galaxy International Convention Center’s receipt of a Silver Certification for Environmental Design in 2021, and the hotel brand, Banyan Tree Macau’s receipt of Gold Certifications since 2019, Galaxy Hotel of GEG also received a Silver Certification, making GEG the integrated resort operator garnered the most EarthCheck certifications in Macau. This new accolade is a further testament of GEG’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development.
To encourage team members’ active participation in environmental protection and to share the insights of GEG’s latest green achievements, GEG organized a sharing session in the back-of-house areas of Galaxy Macau™. Mr. Chan Chee Pong, Senior Vice President of Facilities Management of Galaxy Macau; Mr. Saurabh Mishra, Vice President of Hotel Operations of Galaxy Macau, and other executives from Facilities Management Department and Galaxy Hotel, as well as Energy and Environmental Management Committee were present to show support. In line with GEG’s commitment to environmental protection, Galaxy Hotel has taken concrete actions to optimize energy efficiency and enhance environmental initiatives. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Hotel also promotes environmental awareness to team members and guests, and supports Macau’s development as a livable green city and top tourism destination.
Galaxy Hotel implements multiple conservation measures, including adopting the international standards of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and the ISO 50001 Energy Management System, employing environmentally friendly and highly efficient LED lights, advancing air systems and refrigerating appliances, and using biodegradable tableware, etc. In addition, Galaxy Hotel also provides regular trainings that highlight the importance of environmental protection and carbon reduction to team members, thereby promoting environmental preservation through a multi-pronged approach. Renowned globally as a benchmarking certification and advisory group for the tourism industry, EarthCheck provides an authoritative framework for environmental and social sustainability with its Certification Program, which has attracted hundreds of tourist organizations in over 70 countries or regions to join.
Over the years, GEG has been shouldering its corporate social responsibility and protecting the environment, with its many efforts that have been widely recognized by professional bodies through its attainment of different awards and certifications. The Promenade Shops at Galaxy Macau received Gold Certifications for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (“LEED”) from the United States Green Building Council while Galaxy Hotel achieved an International Eco Certificate from Green Key in 2021. Furthermore, multiple hotel brands under the Galaxy Macau Integrated Resort have received Gold and Silver Macau Green Hotel Awards, organized by the Environmental Protection Bureau and co-organized by the Macau Government Tourism Office. Moving forward, GEG will continue to uphold its philosophy of “what is taken from the community is to be used for the good of the community”, implement different environmental protection and energy-conservation measures, and raise environmental awareness in team members to support Macau’s sustainable development as a green community.
