June 7, 2008
Galaxy Entertainment Group’s (“Galaxy”) dragon boat team “Galaxy Stars” emerged as champion of today’s Macau International Invitational Standard Dragon Boat Race (2000m), thanks to the solidarity of the team members.
The “Galaxy Stars” was not deterred by heavy rain that threatened the continuation of the event, although the races were suspended at one point. The high-spirited team secured the victory in 9:27.18 minutes in the 2000-metre event, outperforming the first runner-up by 7.38 seconds.
The excellent performance this year is just reward for the Galaxy Dragon Boat team’s outstanding efforts in past months. The “Galaxy Stars” claimed the title of second runner-up at the 2008 Macau Standard Dragon Boat Open (500 m) last Saturday, setting the bar higher today and winning today’s Macau International Invitational Standard Dragon Boat Race (2000m) with confidence. The “Stars’“ colleagues, team “Galaxy Universe”, also took honors at the Macau Small Dragon Boat Races Open (250m) last Sunday, coming in as second runner-up.
Raising the trophy cup high, the Galaxy team members shared their exuberance at winning. “We believe our winning performance is the result of tough and relentless practice over the past 10 months,” they said, adding, “All of us were completely steadfast during the training. As a result, we are in a complete synchronicity in our paddling, as we showed during the race.”
“The 2000-meter race this year mainly tested our endurance. But it wasn’t difficult, because we had concentrated on endurance in our training,” “Galaxy Stars” Paddle One Tyson Hoi said. “Even though adverse weather meant we had to work harder, we put our all into the race. I feel thrilled and gratified that we have accomplished this great feat. We will keep on doing our best to achieve even better results in upcoming races.”
Galaxy Dragon Boat Team Manager and Galaxy Group Chief Operating Officer David Banks commented, “The strong teamwork, spirit, and synchronicity shown by the Galaxy Dragon Boat Teams are the attributes the company always emphasizes. I am very proud of the teams’ achievement, and I wholeheartedly thank them for the efforts every team member has made. I hope to see the Galaxy Dragon Boat Team keep up the good work and come in with an excellent performance again in meeting the next challenge.”
The confident “Galaxy Stars” is working hard to get into tip-top shape for the 16th Qu Yuan National Dragon Boat Cup race at Nanning in Guangxi Province, PRC, to be held June 13–15, and they are hoping to bring another victory and more honor for Galaxy.
