GEG Dragon Boat Team Held Blessing Ceremony for the “2016 Macau International Dragon Boat Races”

May 12, 2016 – Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) is sending six teams to compete in the “2016 Macau International Dragon Boat Races” in June. Around 100 team members joined a blessing ceremony this afternoon at the Nam Van Lake Nautical Center. They blessed the six dragon boats that will take part in the races, including Galaxy Stars, Galaxy Pearl, Galaxy Universe, Galaxy Glamour, Galaxy Phoenix and Galaxy Elegance and extended their good wishes to the dragon boat teams for their upcoming success in the races.
The ceremony was officiated by Mr. Kevin Kelley, Chief Operating Officer, Macau, GEG, Mr. Charles So, Director of Operations, StarWorld Hotel, Mr. Trevor Martin, Director of Human Resources and Administration of GEG, Ms. Gillian Murphy, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Broadway Macau™, Mr. Darren Marlowe, Senior Vice President of Table Games, Galaxy Macau™, Ms. Joana Barnes, Chairperson of GEG Staff Social Club and other GEG executives. As part of the traditional ritual, the executives painted the pupils onto the eyes of the six dragon boats followed by the cutting of the suckling pig. They also presented red packets to each team member as a form of encouragement. The six dragon boats were then paddled into the Nam Van Lake, symbolizing the teams’ will to succeed under the auspicious wishes of the GEG executives and team members.
Recognizing that a healthy work-life balance is of the utmost importance, GEG frequently organizes sporting activities for team members. The most popular activity is the annual dragon boat races. Tyson Hoi, Captain of the GEG Dragon Boat Team thanked the senior executives and his colleagues for their support. He observed that his team has become much stronger as a result of intensive training over the past year.
The GEG Dragon Boat Team has garnered many awards over the years in Macau, Hong Kong and Mainland China. This year marks the GEG Dragon Boat Team’s eleventh consecutive year participating in the Macau races. Last year, GEG teams took first-runner up in Macau Small Dragon Boat Race at 200m Women’s Category, a second-runner up in Macau Standard Dragon Boat Race at 500m Women’s Category and a third-runner up in Macau International Invitational Standard Dragon Boat Race at 500m Women’s Category.
