Dec 12, 2016 – The 2016 Macao Occupational Skills Recognition System (MORS) Gold Pin Competition concluded successfully earlier. Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) team members were awarded seven Gold Pin Awards, making GEG the biggest winner of the competition.
This year, the competition covered 10 categories, with 281 contestants from 33 organizations participating. GEG was represented by 32 team members, of whom 13 were selected to compete in the final round. After a vigorous competition, Li Long, Jessica Du, Aguba Rodelyn Lumanglas from Galaxy Macau™; Wendy Wai from Broadway Macau™; Sanchez Jonathan Domen from StarWorld Hotel; Chang Kuong Hang and Li Shibin from Hotel Okura Macau took Gold Pin Awards in the categories of Assistant Cook (Western Kitchen), Front Desk Agent/Customer Relations Officer, Bartender, Concierge and Bell Attendant, Chinese Cook - Cantonese Dim Sum, and Room Attendant. Each of them was awarded a MORS Gold Pin, a cash award of 8,000 MOP, a scholarship of 2,000 MOP for tourism and hospitality training courses, and a certificate.
This year, Li Long from Cascades at Galaxy Macau competed in the Assistant Cook (Western Kitchen) category for the first time. He thanked GEG for encouraging him to join the competition and said, “Contestants were given two hours to cook a soup and a main course. The hardest part of the competition is time management. I had spent time practicing my foundational skills before the competition, and with the guidance of my supervisors, my time management and culinary skills have improved. Apart from self-motivation, the support of my supervisors and colleagues was crucial in motivating me.”
GEG encourages team members to participate in various kinds of competitions to enhance their professional skills and to strive for perfection. GEG will continue to offer world-class facilities and outstanding “Asian Heart” service to visitors from around the world, contributing to Macau’s development into a “World Center of Tourism and Leisure.”
