June 27, 2017 – Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) launched the GEG Internship Program in 2008 to cultivate local talent, providing training opportunities for students to hone their strengths and broaden their horizons. Recently, GEG held the 2017 first batch GEG Internship Program Appreciation Gathering to commemorate the achievements of its latest batch of interns.
During this term of the internship program, 25 students from the University of Macau (“UM”), Macau University of Science and Technology (“MUST”), City University of Macau (“CityU”) and Institute for Tourism Studies (“IFT”), seven special education students from Escola Luso-Chinesa Técnico-Profissional (“ELCTP”), and one local student studying in the Hotel Institute Montreux (“HIM”) in Switzerland gained first-hand professional experience at Galaxy Macau™. The interns learned the ropes in various departments including Public Relations, Human Resources and Administration, Housekeeping, and Food and Beverage. Delivering a speech at the Appreciation Gathering, the intern representative from ELCTP, Maria Iong I Kei, said, “Working in the Food & Beverage Department allowed me to learn more practical skills in hospitality, especially serving customers under GEG’s ‘Asian Heart’ service philosophy. I believe this experience has enhanced my social and professional competence. I’m thankful to my colleagues for all they’ve taught me.” An intern from Macau University of Science and Technology, Zita Iong Hio Tong, said that she had gained a wide range of professional knowledge by participating in the daily Environment Services Department operations, from apparatus cleaning techniques to team management skills.
Mr. Noel Lyons, Vice President of Organization Development & Training, and Mr. William Ki, Vice President of Human Resources & Administration of GEG, together with representatives from various GEG departments and other guests were present at the gathering. Mr. Noel Lyons said: “As a responsible corporate citizen, GEG proactively supports the comprehensive development of local young people in a variety of ways. GEG will continue to provide internship opportunities to nurture local young talent and support the economic diversification of Macau.”
Run twice a year, the GEG Internship Program is in its ninth year and has included students with special education needs since 2012. The Program aims to enhance students’ on-the-job skills, assist them in determining their career paths and help them lay a good foundation for their future careers.
