LUI Che Woo Prize – Prize for World Civilisation 2017 Positive Energy Prize Laureate Public Lecture

Hong Kong, 6 October 2017 – The LUI Che Woo Prize – Prize for World Civilisation (“the LUI Che Woo Prize” or “the Prize”) hosted the Positive Energy Prize Laureate Public Lecture today. Sir Philip Craven, as the President of the International Paralympic Committee (“IPC”), which is the Positive Energy Prize Laureate this year, represented IPC to deliver the lecture titled “Changing the World through Positive Experiences” and share his faith in diversity.

Jointly organised by the LUI Che Woo Prize Limited and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) at Hotel ICON (the teaching hotel of the School of Hotel & Tourism Management, PolyU), the lecture was well received and attended by more than 400 guests and students.

The IPC is awarded the Positive Energy Prize with the Specific Area of Focus on “Promotion of Harmony among Diverse Groups”, for its outstanding work in proactively encouraging Para athletes in celebration and competitive participation in sports, offering hope to people with an impairment, and changing the society’s long-held biases towards them. The IPC has successfully promoted harmony among diverse groups and radiated positive energy around the globe.

The first Paralympic Games was held successfully in 1960 and has since grown into one of the world’s biggest and most important global sporting events. Using the principles of the Paralympic Movement as a blueprint and the success of the Paralympic Games as a model, IPC President Sir Philip Craven shared his belief in how world leaders could help foster a more inclusive world through positive experiences.

Guests attending the lecture included Dr. Lui Che Woo, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Governors cum Prize Council of the LUI Che Woo Prize; Dr. York Chow Yat-ngok, Honorary President of the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled; members of the Paralympic Games Hong Kong squad and students from special schools, local secondary schools and universities.
