June 27, 2019 – Committed to supporting the Macau SAR Government’s occupational safety and health policies, Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) has been proactively enhancing facilities and equipment within its flagship properties to create and maintain safe and comfortable work environment for its team members. To deepen team members’ awareness of environment, health and safety concepts, GEG organizes the annual Environmental, Health and Safety Quiz Competition. Marking its fifth year, this year’s event was recently held in the Heart-of-House of Galaxy Macau™. Mr. Wong Chi Hong, Director of the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL), and Mr. Chan Chee Pong, Senior Vice President of Facilities Management of Galaxy Macau, attended the event.
A record 29 teams comprising 120 team members from nine departments participated in this year’s competition. Quiz materials, which cover an array of topics, were prepared with reference to the materials from the DSAL Workplace Safety Training Program and from the Environmental Protection Bureau. Through this competition, GEG hopes to reinforce team members’ awareness on occupational safety and environmental protection. Hotel Okura Housekeeping Department Team, Galaxy Macau Environmental Services Department Team, Facilities Management Department Team and Table Games Department Team competed in the finals, with Hotel Okura Housekeeping Department Team securing the championship title. Mr. Louis Leong, representative of the three-time champion Hotel Okura Housekeeping Department Team, said, “The company has been taking multi-facet measures to ensure team members’ safety. For example, forklift lanes were established in the back-of-house areas to avoid collisions between pedestrians and forklifts, speakers and Gobo projectors were incorporated to remind team members to avoid text-walking, and a potential-hazard reporting system has been introduced allowing team members to report facility damage by scanning QR codes. Moreover, quizzes like this strengthen our knowledge on workplace safety and environmental protection, and further cultivate team spirit.”
Mr. Chan Chee Pong, Senior Vice President of Facilities Management of Galaxy Macau stated, “With oversight from the Occupational Safety and Health Committee, GEG has been introducing various workplace safety measures and energy conservation initiatives over the years. Through this competition, we aim to refresh team members’ understanding of occupational health and safety, and the importance of energy efficiency. By joining hands with our team members, we aim to create a safe, comfortable and environmentally-friendly integrated resort.”
Winners of this year’s Environmental, Health and Safety Quiz Competition will have the opportunity to represent GEG in the Macau leg of the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Safety Knowledge Competition organized by DSAL. GEG’s occupational safety and environmental protection measures are highly recognized with its flagship properties Galaxy Macau and Broadway Macau™ being the first integrated resorts in Macau to receive the OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Certification, and Hotel Okura and Broadway Hotel respectively receiving gold and silver awards at the Green Hotel Awards hosted by the Environmental Protection Bureau. GEG will continue its facility optimization and occupational risk elimination measures to continue to offer safe and comfortable working environment for team members, and contribute to the city’s environmental protection.
