GEG-MYEA Forum inspires youth entrepreneurism and innovation

Mr. Tai Kin Ip, Director of the Macao Economic Bureau, says that the SAR Government has been endeavouring to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among young people under initiatives that tap into Macau’s close links with Portuguese-speaking countries, which would pave the way for wider and deeper exchanges of innovative resources between mainland China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

October 17, 2019 – Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) organized a forum on entrepreneurship and innovation in the Greater Bay Area and Portuguese-speaking countries today in conjunction with the Macau Youth Entrepreneur Association (MYEA) at the JW Marriott Hotel Macau, drawing close to 150 young high-flyers. Also in attendance were Mr. Tai Kin Ip, Director of the Macao Economic Bureau (Bureau); Ms. Zhu Hong, Deputy Director General of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Mr. Ho Ka Lon, President of MYEA; Philip Cheng, Director of GEG; and many representatives of local enterprises.
Supported by the Bureau and sponsored by the Macao Foundation, the forum featured a line-up of prominent business leaders and industry professionals as guest speakers. They offered the participants their insights into various aspects of the development of the Greater Bay Area and of Portuguese-speaking countries, golden opportunities emerging from Luso-Chinese collaboration, and Macau’s function as a bridge between China and the Portuguese-speaking world.
In his address, Mr. Tai said that the SAR Government had been endeavouring to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among young people under initiatives that tap into Macau’s close links with Portuguese-speaking countries. He added that it would pave the way for wider and deeper exchanges of innovative resources between mainland China and Portuguese-speaking countries. According to Mr. Tai, the Bureau joined forces with six GBA organizations earlier this year to roll out the first phase of a consultation program, which offers local start-ups aiming to venture into the Bay Area access to training in law, accounting and taxation to prepare them for all the possible opportunities arising from closer regional cooperation.
Mr. Ho Ka Lon said, “MYEA will continue to help sharpen Macau’s One Centre, One Platform and One Base role in step with the Macau SAR Government, working together to reinforce the trade and commercial interaction and cooperation between the country and Portuguese-speaking countries. We remain committed to cultivating the development of the youth in Macau and Portuguese-speaking countries under the Belt and Road Initiative in a coordinated bid to help diversify Macau’s economy and advance the establishment of the Greater Bay Area.”
During the forum, GEG announced that that it would become the first local integrated resort operator to support fledgling start-ups at a pre-Lunar New Year fair in the East Square of the Galaxy Macau™ next January through its “Large-Businesses-Leading-Small-Businesses” cooperation model. Participating entrepreneurs will receive technological support and branding training. Mr. Philip Cheng said, “GEG wishes to support young entrepreneurs in pursuing their dreams by offering them maximum care and assistance along the way. Youth entrepreneurship is key to a more diverse and sustainable economy in Macau, and GEG will continue to collaborate closely with other sectors of society to nurture a new generation of talented aspiring entrepreneurs.”
After the forum, the participants engaged in a fruitful exchange of views over dinner. To contribute to Macau’s transition to a more diverse and sustainable economy, GEG has been providing home-grown businesses and entrepreneurs with all the opportunities and conditions they need to take off.
