October 24, 2019–Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) and its team member Mr. Cheong Kin Tong received the Talent Recognizing Employer award and the Outstanding Disabled Employee award respectively in the recent “Outstanding Disabled Employees and Talent Recognizing Employers Award Program 2019”, co-organized by the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) and the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL). The program acknowledges the outstanding work performance of people with disabilities, promotes the public’s recognition and understanding of the employability of people with disabilities, and encourages employers to provide employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
GEG is honored to be recognized as a Talent Recognizing Employer. GEG is keen on providing equal employment opportunities and on-the-job training for people with disabilities to help them increase their self-confidence, develop their potential, and become integrated into society. Referred to GEG by the Association of Parents of the People with Intellectual Disabilities of Macau and DSAL, Mr. Cheong Kin Tong joined GEG in 2015 as a F&B service agent in the team member canteen of Broadway Macau™. He is responsible for preparation work, including cleaning, and refilling food and drinks. He said he was very happy to receive the Outstanding Disabled Employee award and thanked GEG for giving him a job opportunity, enabling him to become self-reliant. “This is my first full-time job,” he said. “I was initially worried about not being able to adapt, but since I joined the company, my supervisors and colleagues have helped train me and provided a lot of support. I can now fully handle the job requirements.”
Mr. Jackson Fong, Cheong’s supervisor, affirmed Cheong's work performance, "He is very diligent and concentrates well. He has a positive attitude at work and gets along well with his colleagues. In 2018, he received GEG’s ‘Star of the Month’ award, which was also recognition of his performance."
In addition to employment opportunities, GEG provides hardware support, such as barrier-free parking, ramps, washrooms and platform lifts in its properties for guests and team members with disabilities. A certain number of barrier-free facilities, which comply with internal specifications and the Macau SAR Government’s “Architectural standards for barrier-free and universal design in the Macau Special Administrative Region”, are planned in GEG’s upcoming projects to cater for people with disabilities. GEG also cares for all sectors of the community and continues to work with different service providers and organizations to provide sponsorship and a wide range of activities for people with disabilities or other special needs. Recently, GEG title-sponsored Macau Special Olympics’ Table Tennis Competition 2019, invited members of the Macau Autism Association to visit the Hello Kitty Hello Again Exhibition, and donated the proceedings of the Galaxy Got Talent event to the Macau Association for the Mentally Handicapped. GEG will continue to assist in building an inclusive community in Macau by organizing even more community activities and supporting the sustainable development of community groups.
